Samhain or Rhythm is It

Samhain or Rhythm is It

Our last LeadingAlive. open workshop "An owner's guide to your brain" happened to be on October 31st. I learned that this is the date of the Gaelic festival of Samhain, honoring the end of the harvest season and the transition to the darker half of the year, celebrated in Ireland long before this date became conquered by Halloween.

We talked about how our experience as individuals reflects the process in nature, how we need phases during the year, as well as in our lives, when we withdraw a bit from the outside world, re-center and focus on our inner world, to get clarity and strength for the next spring, or a new chapter in our life.

Constantly being "online" - work, news, Facebook, Tweets, a tight schedule, end-of-year reports and budgets, seamless advertising cycles through all seasons (with x-mas sweets on the shelves already in September) - all this may make us believe, we don't have or don't need a certain rhythm anymore, that modern life has risen above those naturalistic or archaic needs. “Neuroscience for Everyone” in beautiful County Wicklow

Neuroscience for Everyone in beautiful County Wicklow

With LeadingAlive., my cooperation with Hilde Eiselen, we have run several open workshops in beautiful County Wicklow, Ireland, over the course of this year, on the impact of a better understanding of how our brains and bodies function together as a system, based on neuro-scientific evidence, for our health and resilience, our overall well-being, our effectiveness, and the quality of our relationships.

People from various industries and backgrounds have joined us so far - e.g. from IT and public sector, medical professionals, teachers, artists, engineers; colleagues, couples, parents, grandparents. We received a lot of great feedback (an especially touching one was "This workshop changed about everything for us."). We enjoy this work very much and we are grateful for our open-minded, curious and courageously exploring participants.

On Saturday 31st Oct we will run our workshop 'Owner's Guide to Your Brain' for the last time this year. If you feel like recharging your batteries to go strong and more balanced through the upcoming dark period of the year, join us for this lively and...

What Sid in Ice Age and classical OD approaches may have in common

What Sid in Ice Age and classical OD approaches may have in common

Lately, I was in a conversation with Dr David Drake, Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Narrative Coaching & Leadership and the Narrative Design Labs, discussing the benefits of an approach like the Narrative Design Labs for organizations, and in what way we're actually preparing for 'a life after OD' - or at least Organization Development as it is so often practiced until today. When thinking of 'classical' OD initiatives - in short: analysis, problem solving, solution, cascading through the organization - a vivid picture popped up in my head: Sid from Ice Age.

(BTW: I am well aware that Sid isn't a squirrel, for an illustrative perspective it was just the closest I could get on the fly )

Since I believe in organizations as living human systems, I favor approaches, where everyone who's future is at stake has a voice in the process. As the owner of a consulting business maybe I shouldn't say so, but I don't believe in external consultants invading an organization, do a lot of (primarily) data analysis, lock themselves in an isolated breeding room, and...
