Our last LeadingAlive. open workshop "An owner's guide to your brain" happened to be on October 31st. I learned that this is the date of the Gaelic festival of Samhain, honoring the end of the harvest season and the transition to the darker half of the year, celebrated in Ireland long before this date became conquered by Halloween.
We talked about how our experience as individuals reflects the process in nature, how we need phases during the year, as well as in our lives, when we withdraw a bit from the outside world, re-center and focus on our inner world, to get clarity and strength for the next spring, or a new chapter in our life.
Constantly being "online" - work, news, Facebook, Tweets, a tight schedule, end-of-year reports and budgets, seamless advertising cycles through all seasons (with x-mas sweets on the shelves already in September) - all this may make us believe, we don't have or don't need a certain rhythm anymore, that modern life has risen above those naturalistic or archaic needs. I believe the opposite is true.
